6 new emojis proposed for Unicode 15.1

Following the release of Unicode 15.0 last September, Emojipedia just presented the proposed emojis for Unicode 15.1. A total of 578 new combinations are offered. A considerable number, but which nevertheless includes 572 modifications of existing emojis, with the possibility of choosing the direction of the emoji (left or right, up or down). Among the emojis in question we can find, for example, the Walking Man 🚶‍♂️, the Surfer Girl 🏄‍♀️ or the Car 🚗.

Here is the list of the 6 new emojis on offer:

  • lime emoji,
  • brown mushroom,
  • the broken chain,
  • The face that nods
  • The face that nods its head to say no
  • the phoenix

A release is planned for September 2023

When will we have access to these new emojis? First, these 578 new proposals will have to go through the Unicode Technical Committee and the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee in early 2023.

Then the approved emojis will be available from September 2023. However, it should be noted that the date of availability on smartphones varies depending on the emoji provider (Apple, Google, Samsung, etc.). For example, the emojis built into Unicode 15.0 (which notably include the pink heart, the shaking face, or even maracas) are currently only available on certain Samsung devices and Google services.
